Designing has forever transformed me into an observer. I cannot help but absorb everything that catches my view. One area that particularly inspires me is architecture. The first rule one learns in an art school is "Form Follows Function". Observing the mechanics of an elevator or the profile of an enormous skyscraper, I mentally imagine the basic function of the object and how well the design or form desribes this. I see this as a simple, definative plan. Inspiration stems from the beauty observed in that design.

Similarly, my designs can be described as simple and definative. They often have linear and geometric patterns. Also appealing to me is the play of positive and negative space in creating a balance. There is a serenity in that balance, a pleasure to the beholder. I strive to achieve that serenity in all of my work. Along with this, I feel my work exudes a confidence, which, when worn, reflects on the bearer. Observing someone adorned with a Marcy Carr design is beautiful and inspirational for me. I sense the pleasure the piece brings to its owner, the feel and weight of it adding to its overall aesthetics. nothing brings me more serenity than the knowledge they chose my work as their own expression.

Through my traditional training, I have a love of precious metals and gemstones. Therefore, my work is created in sterling silver and gold metal. particularly intriguing to me is the use of cabachon gemstones. their clean, simplified shape works well with the style of my simple, geometric creations. The majority of my designs are created through fabrication, that is, formed and worked straight from a sheet and/or wire metal form. This process also incoperates various techniques of torch soldering. Frequently, the pieces are created through lost wax casting. This involves carving a design in wax and then transforming it into metal through an oven and centrifugal process. I work the peices from start to finish, from the first saw cut to the final polish. Oftentimes, a design may combine any number of the above mentioned techniques, whatever is required to achieve that serene beauty.
